REACTION: LEICESTER 53 BRUMMIES 37

Friday August 29, 2025
BIRMINGHAM CEO Nigel Tolley has vowed to redouble his efforts to bring the club back to racing at a new venue.

The Curtis Sport Brummies completed their senior 2025 campaign with a 53-37 defeat at Leicester on Thursday, 72 hours after saying farewell to their Perry Barr home which is closing for redevelopment.

Tolley, who took over the club in 2022 when they were threatened by closure at the time, says his determination to see a Birmingham team on track again in the future remains as high as ever.

He said: “It does hit you that that was the final meeting in the Premiership for Birmingham Brummies.

“Yes, we’ve lost the stadium, but we are still Birmingham Brummies and we’ll see if we can find another home for ourselves.

“We shan’t give up on that, and there’s lots in the pipeline. Let’s find another home for Brummies.”

Tolley praised his riders for a battling effort at the Hydroscand Arena against a powerful Leicester team who are going for the league title.

For the third time this season the Brummies showed their liking for the East Midlands circuit, with a 16-point defeat not reflective of their overall efforts.

Matej Zagar top scored with 10+2 from five rides and Tobiasz Musielak scored 10, both looking far more at ease at Beaumont Park than on their own home track, and Musielak would have scored more but for losing out to Ryan Douglas and Max Fricke in the closing stages of an excellent Heat 15.

Tolley said: “They all put in maximum effort, and they love this track – and it does show up the weaknesses in the Perry Barr track as well.

“We haven’t got the strength in the team, we are almost there but not quite. A bit more strength in the team and we would have beaten them.

“What a lot of people don’t realise is Tobi has been in absolute agony since his crash last Saturday, with a good chance that he’s got at least a couple of cracked ribs, and I think that showed up in his last ride when he lost strength and gradually went backwards.”

There is one more meeting for Birmingham Speedway this season as the Ductair Bulls travel to Kent in the National Development Trophy on Sunday September 7.

LEICESTER 53: Ryan Douglas 13, Max Fricke 12+2, Drew Kemp 9, Luke Becker 7+1, Kyle Howarth 4+1, Joe Thompson 4+1, Sam Masters 4.
BIRMINGHAM 37: Matej Zagar 10+2, Tobiasz Musielak 10, Keynan Rew 7, Jonas Jeppesen 6+2, Sam Hagon 2, Paco Castagna 1, Simon Lambert 1.
Leicester win the aggregate point.
