| | BIRMINGHAM bagged their first home win of the season as they came out on top in a last heat decider to beat reigning champions Belle Vue 47-43 on Monday.
It brilliantly backed up their first victory of the year seven days previous at Leicester in a piece of double delight for the Curtis Sport Brummies.
Heat-leader duo Matej Zagar and Tobiasz Musielak sealed the deal with a 5-1 in Heat 15 after Belle Vue’s Grand Prix star Dan Bewley started the re-run from a 15 metre handicap having touched the tapes in the initial staging.
Birmingham, again, got off to a slow start on home shale conceding a maximum in the opener.
But reserve pairing Jonas Jeppesen and Jason Edwards responded instantly with a 5-1 of their own following an awkward spill for Tate Zischke down the back straight of the first attempt.
Jaimon Lidsey led the first shared race of the night for the visitors in Heat Three before Bewley picked up his second and then third win in quick succession, the latter a 4-2 to edge the visitors back in front.
Again however, the Brummies hit back immediately with Zagar coming under Norick Blodorn in Heat Six whilst Paco Castagna got the better of Zischke for third.
Zagar then made it successive race wins in the seventh as he rounded Lidsey off bend two.
Edwards denied Belle Vue a 5-1 in Heat Eight when he plugged away on the inside of Blodorn before former Brummie Zach Cook picked up his first win against his old side in Heat Nine.
Cook was then left unhappy by Jeppesen’s determined overtake in the tenth - but the Dane failed to pick up any points after a mistake on the last lap with another 4-2 giving Belle Vue a four point lead.
But again the Brummies replied as Zagar picked up a third straight win whilst Jeppesen had to settle for third after a good battle with Bewley.
Birmingham moved in front for the first time in Heat 12 when Musielak and Edwards both made a blistering start and were never challenged before Belle Vue levelled once more with Bewley riding brilliantly to reel in and pass Castagna on the line.
Edwards came in as a reserve replacement for Keynan Rew, who was struggling with a foot injury, in Heat 14, and he and Jeppesen took a 3-3 to take it down to the wire.
Musielak had a nibble to gain an advantage in the finale and received a warning - but in doing so, he also sucked Bewley into the tapes.
The re-run saw Zagar gate and clamp Cook on the inside, allowing Musielak around to partner him out front as the Brummies claimed a victory over the men from Manchester in front of the TV cameras - just as they did in 2024.
The two sides are set to meet again at the National Speedway Stadium this coming Thursday (June 5, 7.30pm).
