PREVIEW: BRUMMIES v IPSWICH

Sunday May 18, 2025
BIRMINGHAM host league leaders Ipswich at Perry Barr on Monday (May 19, 7.30pm) in their first meeting since they announced their closure at the end of the current campaign.

It is sure to be an emotional night for some in the Second City - but the club’s riders are focussed on the quest for ROWE Motor Oil Premiership points.

The Curtis Sport Brummies are the only team in the top-flight yet to get off the mark whilst Ipswich currently sit top of the pile.

The Witches have already won 47-43 as well in the West Midlands last month, but they did lose their first meeting of the year at Sheffield on Thursday.

The visitors’ No.1 Jason Doyle misses out after the former Brummie dislocated his hip during Saturday’s FIM Speedway Grand Prix of Poland.

For Birmingham, rider replacement will operate for Michael Jepsen Jensen who has quit UK racing whilst Matej Zagar finally returns to the line-up having had his visa approved and Jonas Jeppesen moves to reserve.

CEO Nigel Tolley said: “We know our position isn’t ideal, but the team will keep pushing on.

“They’re as desperate as anyone to get that first win on the board and they really want to give the supporters something to cheer about, even more so given Friday’s news.

“Losing MJJ is a massive shame but we thank him for all he’s done in the opening months of the season and we wish him the best.

“We know Ipswich are a very strong team, even without their No.1, and we know outsiders will expect nothing but an away win.

“So that takes the pressure off a meeting like this one and it means our six riders can go out there and express themselves knowing they’ve got little to lose in a sense and everything to gain.

“Jonas at reserve could be a trump card for us, hopefully that will be the case.

“I just hope speedway supporters in the Midlands turn out on Monday and make the most of the sport in this region while it’s still here.”

Supporters should note that this fixture is NOT being televised and will NOT be streamed either.
