| | BIRMINGHAM have suffered another major setback ahead of Monday’s (May 19, 7.30pm) home fixture with Ipswich with the news that Michael Jepsen Jensen has decided to stop racing in the UK.
The Dane has been the Curtis Sport Brummies’ stand-out performer so far this season and admits it’s not an easy decision to make.
Said Jepsen Jensen: “After a few days of reflection, I’ve made a difficult but necessary decision – I will no longer continue racing in the UK.
“From the beginning, the club knew I was going to give it a try and see where it goes.
“I appreciate their understanding and support throughout, but now I feel the need to be honest with myself and fair to the fans in all the leagues I race in.
“The truth is, I’ve realised that what I need right now isn’t more racing; I need a clear head, strong fitness, time to go for bike rides and runs, and to trust the process I’m following.
“Since the season started, I haven’t been able to find any rhythm.
“It’s been frustrating – I feel like all the hard work I’ve put in is just going down the drain.
“The travel has taken a toll on both my body and mind and it’s made it impossible to train and recover the way I need to.
“I don’t want to be in a situation where I can’t give 100 per cent; it wouldn’t be fair to the fans or the club if I kept going knowing I can’t commit at the level I expect from myself.
“Finishing my time in British racing wasn’t an easy decision, but I believe it’s the right one.
“That said, this doesn’t mean it’s a closed door.
“Even with our tough results, I’ve enjoyed the experience and could definitely see it happening again in the future — at a better time and under better circumstances.
“Thank you to everyone who has supported me through this, especially the club for giving me the chance.”
Birmingham have been granted a 14 day facility to cover.
A full preview of Monday’s fixture will be issued later on Sunday.
