REACTION - BRUMMIES 43 IPSWICH 47

Tuesday April 08, 2025
BIRMINGHAM team manager Chris Adams says he was ‘quite pleased’ to see his side push Ipswich close - but couldn’t help but feel a tinge of disappointment following their 47-43 home loss on Monday.

There’s no doubt that it was a much-improved display from the Curtis Sport Brummies who lost by 24 points in their first home fixture of the year and who were also beaten by 32 points in their league opener at Sheffield last Thursday.

Just as Ipswich thought they’d created some breathing space in the Second City, Birmingham game fighting back level with four races to go.

But Antti Vuolas’ crash in Heat 14 was enough to award the visitors with a 5-1 to put them beyond reach with a race to spare with their reserve duo Dan Thompson and Jordan Jenkins providing a pivotal contribution of 23 points over the course of the contest.

“Well it was a far better performance than on our first night here,” Adams said.

“Their reserves were the key ones for Ipswich but they’re a really strong side and I was glad that we ran them close.

“There’s still plenty of work to do though but I’m quite pleased.

“Yes I’m a little bit disappointed in the end that we couldn’t get the win and I thought that Heat 14 was going to be a re-run, but other than that it is what it is and we’ll now focus on the next one.”

Keynan Rew, Michael Jepsen Jensen and Jonas Jeppesen all pulled off two race wins apiece whilst Matej Zagar led home Birmingham’s first league 5-1 of the season in Heat 11.

Tobiasz Musielak looked much more competitive as the night went on whilst Jason Edwards and Vuolas battled from down in the reserve berths.

The Brummies now take a fortnight’s break before their Easter Monday (April 21) home and away double against champions Belle Vue. They travel to Manchester at 12 noon with the return at Perry Barr at 7.30pm.

There is action in the Second City next Monday (April 14, 7.30pm) though as the Birmingham Ductair Bulls take on King’s Lynn Young Stars in the National Development Trophy.
