| | BIRMINGHAM endured a tricky night in South Yorkshire as they were well-beaten 61-29 at Sheffield.
The Curtis Sport Brummies were outgated for the entire first half of the meeting - and found themselves 18 points down with six races gone.
That was after being handed a 4-2 in Heat Two when former Brummie Leon Flint packed up whilst in second with Jason Edwards already clear out front.
And whilst the team came together regularly to discuss set-ups, they couldn’t match the gating power or speed of the hosts until it was already too late.
Michael Jepsen Jensen and Matej Zagar claimed wins in Heats 12 and 13 respectively, ending any maximum hopes for Josh Pickering, Jack Holder and Chris Holder.
But it’s a night they’ll collectively be keen to forget as they turn their attentions to Monday’s (April 7, 7.30pm) home ROWE Motor Oil Premiership opener against Ipswich.
SHEFFIELD 61: Josh Pickering 16+1, Jack Holder 14, Anders Rowe 11+4, Chris Holder 11+1, Leon Flint 7+4, Danyon Hume 2, Tai Woffinden R/R. BIRMINGHAM 29: Matej Zagar 7, Keynan Rew 5+1, Michael Jepsen Jensen 5, Jason Edwards 4+1, Jonas Jeppesen 4, Tobiasz Musielak 3+1, Antti Vuolas 1.
