TOLLEY LOOKING FORWARD

Thursday August 22, 2024
BIRMINGHAM CEO Nigel Tolley says he's already making plans for 2025 - despite awaiting confirmation of whether they'll be back on track or not next term.

The Curtis Sport Brummies' chief has revealed his team will only be able to come to the tapes next year IF greyhound racing continues at Perry Barr.

He is currently waiting on communication from stadium landlords but says he is hopeful of good news soon.

“The current situation as things stand is that if the greyhounds are at Perry Barr next year, we shall be riding,” Tolley said.

“If the greyhounds aren’t at Perry Barr next year, we can’t afford to take over the stadium just to ourselves.

“We’ve worked it out and the business plan just wouldn’t work, it would cost us four/five times what we are paying at the moment.

“I’ve just got to confirm with ARC (Arena Racing Company) that they’re going to be there next season, but I don’t think they know for sure yet.

“But certainly I would like to officially be building a team as soon as possible."

Tolley admits he has already sat down and started working on several realistic permutations - and he has reassured supporters that he will learn from mistakes club chiefs have made in recent seasons.

“We are starting to work on next year’s team, but the approach will be different," Tolley said.

“There’s certain riders that will be back next season, it won’t be a completely fresh team by any means.

“We’ve learnt from our mistakes, some of the mistakes just couldn’t have been foreseen and we should never have been in the position we’re in.”

Birmingham stage their final league fixture of the season this Bank Holiday Monday (August 26, 7.30pm) - and the club would like to confirm that this meeting is NOT live on TV as incorrectly advertised in certain billings.

Former Wolverhampton mic man Ian 'Porky' Jones will also be making a guest appearance that night with regular Centre Green Presenter Ryan Guest set to miss his first meeting at Perry Barr since being appointed in 2015 due to other work commitments as his 138 meeting streak looks set to come to an end.
