REACTION - SHEFFIELD 55 BRUMMIES 35

Friday August 16, 2024
BIRMINGHAM boss Sam Ermolenko bemoaned his side’s ability to get to grips with a ‘different track’ as they were beaten 55-35 at Sheffield on Thursday.

After showing plenty of encouraging signs in recent weeks, the Curtis Sport Brummies struggled to trouble the champions who ran out comfortable winners on home shale.

Three race wins from Freddie Lindgren and one from Wiktor Lampart was all Birmingham could muster up and Ermolenko was disappointed to see his riders chasing mechanical set-ups from the off.

“It’s a very different track compared to the Brummies’ at Perry Barr,” he said.

“A lot of our guys were really struggling to get to grips with this style of track.

“For some reason there were some set-up problems in the pits and you can bounce around each and every one of them - even Freddie started off not getting it right and he’s got a Grand Prix coming up as has Tom Brennan.

“Freddie ended up figuring it out, changing bikes and it worked for him.

“Tom has still got some teething problems and when you’ve not got your top two scoring points when you need it, the bottom guys are going to struggle.

“I think they (Sheffield) hit form because we did so terribly.”

Birmingham are back on home shale on Monday (August 19, 7.30pm) when they host King’s Lynn in a fixture where they will be desperate to end their winless run.

In the meantime, Lindgren and Brennan will both compete in this weekend’s FIM Speedway Grand Prix of Great Britain.

The main meeting takes place at 5pm on Saturday (August 17) whilst the Sprint Race and qualifying takes place later today (Friday).

SHEFFIELD 55: Chris Holder 14, Jack Holder 12+1, Kyle Howarth 10+1, Josh Pickering 9+2, Dan Gilkes 6+1, Jason Edwards 4, Tai Woffinden R/R
BIRMINGHAM 35: Freddie Lindgren 13, Wiktor Lampart 7+1, Zach Cook 5+1, Tom Brennan 5, Michael Palm Toft 4, Leon Flint 1, Piotr Pawlicki R/R.
Sheffield win the aggregate point 102-78.
