SHEFFIELD 55 BRUMMIES 35

BIRMINGHAM were well beaten 55-35 by champions Sheffield in South Yorkshire on Thursday.

The Curtis Sport Brummies were able to provide just four race winners at Owlerton Stadium - three from captain Freddie Lindgren and one from Wiktor Lampart who took the chequered flag in his first ever race around the Steel City circuit.

The Perry Barr outfit had to wait until Heat Nine to land their first advantage when Lindgren was named as a tactical substitute. But Tom Brennan had to eventually settle for third having been passed by Josh Pickering. The Brummies’ top two were again paired up in Heat 11 and delivered the same result.

But apart from Lindgren leading a shared Heat 13, that was the only other joy for the Brummies who struggled to match the side who moved to the top of the league table.

Birmingham are back on home shale on Monday (August 19, 7.30pm) when they host King’s Lynn in a fixture where they will be desperate to end their winless run.

SHEFFIELD 55: Chris Holder 14, Jack Holder 12+1, Kyle Howarth 10+1, Josh Pickering 9+2, Dan Gilkes 6+1, Jason Edwards 4, Tai Woffinden R/R
BIRMINGHAM 35: Freddie Lindgren 13, Wiktor Lampart 7+1, Zach Cook 5+1, Tom Brennan 5, Michael Palm Toft 4, Leon Flint 1, Piotr Pawlicki R/R.
Sheffield win the aggregate point 102-78.
