| | TEAM manager Sam Ermolenko described Birmingham’s latest last heat defeat as ‘super heartbreaking.’
For the third meeting in succession on home shale, the Curtis Sport Brummies were denied in Heat 15 with Leicester grabbing a 46-44 win.
Sadly, it means Birmingham’s losing sequence is extended to 12 meetings.
The Perry Barr outfit were able to provide just five race winners in a contest that saw eight shared heats.
The scores were tied 42-apiece going into Heat 15 and whilst captain Freddie Lindgren tried everything possible to go from third to first to force the Super Heat, he had to settle for second as the Brummies just missed out once again.
“It was super heartbreaking,” Ermolenko said.
“We tried everything we could but we just lost grip of the track a little bit, it was difficult for some of the boys.
“We had the choice of gate positions for Heat 15 thinking that was going to be it.
“Their boys got out in front though and with Freddie, you can tell he’s a world class rider. He put everything he had into that but the track didn’t give him enough out there to be able to give him that nice pass he was looking for.
“That just shows his commitment to the club really; he went out there and threw it in where most guys probably wouldn’t.
“We are the club that brings great value against anyone of late and we’ll push right to the end.
“Any one of our race heats, you don’t know who is going to win, you don’t know who is going to lose so that right there is pretty exciting for me as a team manager.”
The Brummies head to champions Sheffield on Thursday (August 15, 7.30pm) with King’s Lynn the visitors to Perry Barr next Monday (August 19, 7.30pm).
In between that, Lindgren and Tom Brennan will be competing at the FIM Speedway Grand Prix of Great Britain on Saturday (August 17, 5pm) where a crowd of over 30,000 fans is expected at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium.
BIRMINGHAM 44: Zach Cook 12, Freddie Lindgren 9+1, Wiktor Lampart 8, Tom Brennan 6+1, Leon Flint 5+3, Michael Palm Toft 4+2, Piotr Pawlicki R/R. LEICESTER 46: Ryan Douglas 12, Max Fricke 8+1, Sam Masters 8+1, Richard Lawson 7+1, Luke Becker 7, Drew Kemp 4, Sam Hagon 0. Leicester win the aggregate point 94-86
