MONDAY PREVIEW: BRUMMIES v SHEFFIELD

Sunday July 21, 2024
BIRMINGHAM take on defending champions Sheffield in a highly anticipated ROWE Motor Oil Premiership clash at Perry Barr on Monday (July 22, 7.30pm).

The two played out a fascinating draw on opening night in the Second City back in March with the Curtis Sport Brummies stunning the South Yorkshire side early doors when they raced into a ten point lead.

Plenty has changed since then though and the Brummies now find themselves on a run of six straight defeats in all competitions.

Meanwhile, the visitors currently sit second in the standings - but they have lost their last four away fixtures.

And that’s something that CEO Nigel Tolley hopes his side can take advantage of on Monday night.

“We know results and performances of late haven’t been good enough,” Tolley said.

“But this next home meeting against Sheffield could actually come at just the right time.

“Everyone on the outside will probably be expecting Sheffield to come and take the points without many problems at all.

“But for us, the Brummies’ riders are desperate to turn things around - and let’s be honest, there’d be no better way to get things back on track than by beating the champions.

“They may have a good team, but it’s not as if Sheffield have been sparkling on their travels lately.

“So hopefully that will prove to be the case again on Monday and we can get a much needed win.”

Michael Palm Toft will make his debut for Birmingham whilst they have booked Zach Cook, who was released from the team earlier in the season, to guest in place of Justin Sedgmen who is ruled out with concussion.

The visitors include Jack Holder, who is currently second in the World Championship standings, 2012 World Champion Chris Holder and Josh Pickering who is a popular racer with the Birmingham faithful. Sheffield have also booked Australian international Max Fricke to guest in place of the injured Tai Woffinden.

Whilst supporters can pay on the night trackside, tickets are also available to purchase online in advance for £23 adults, £20 concessions (with proof) and £10 students (with proof) - children under 16 are admitted free of charge!

Brand new racenight ‘VIP Gold Tickets’ are also available for £39 - this includes a raceday programme, a pre-meeting pits visit, a centre green experience as well as use of the executive boxes upstairs in the main grandstand.

All tickets can be secured via: trybooking.com/uk/events/landing/64084?

Any supporters attending are also politely asked to note the racenight parking revisions. All season ticket holders are being asked to park in the main car park of the stadium where a dedicated parking area for season ticket holders and blue badge holders is being created close to the main entrance, which will leave only limited parking onsite for non-season ticket holders. However, the club will continue to do their best to provide car parking at the stadium for those with mobility issues, but are urging those fans to arrive by 7pm.

The club are asking for fans who aren't season ticket holders, to use the car parking in Holford Drive (in front of Prince Albert High School), postcode B42 2TU, which is less than 5 minutes walk to the stadium entrance.

The VIP car-park, which has been accommodating some season ticket holders and blue badge holders, will now continue to be used for sponsors, staff and second half riders.
