BRUMMIES 23 OXFORD 37

Monday July 08, 2024
BIRMINGHAM suffered a sixth straight loss as they were beaten 37-23 at home to Oxford in a fixture cut short after ten races due to rain.

It was another bitterly disappointing display from the Curtis Sport Brummies who were outsmarted by their opponents who dealt with racing conditions much better.

Many hoped the tone was set for the night when guest Luke Becker and Freddie Lindgren went out and got a 5-1 in the opener.

But, sadly, that couldn’t have been further from the case with the visitors, who had won only one away league meeting going into the fixture (also at Perry Barr in April), winning the next nine races and claiming five heat advantages in the process.

The Brummies riders and management now have a fortnight to gather their thoughts ahead of the next ROWE Motor Oil Premiership fixture at home to reigning champions Sheffield on Monday, July 22 (7.30pm).

There is speedway at Perry Barr next Monday (July 15, 7.30pm) however with the latest round of the British Youth Championships taking place in the second city.

ROWE MOTOR OIL PREMIERSHIP R2
BIRMINGHAM 23: Luke Becker 5, Justin Sedgmen 5, Fredrik Lindgren 4+1, Piotr Pawlicki 4, Wiktor Lampart 2+2, Leon Flint 2+2, Tom Brennan 1.
OXFORD 37: Erik Riss 9, Maciej Janowski 8+1, Chris Harris 7+2, Charles Wright 6+1, Rohan Tungate 4, Drew Kemp 3, Ashton Boughen 0.
