LINDGREN ON TOP IN GORZOW

Saturday June 29, 2024
BIRMINGHAM’s Freddie Lindgren picked up his first Grand Prix victory of the year with a stunning display in Poland on Saturday.

The Swedish superstar finished 15th in qualifying earlier in the day and was up against it after being left with a tough starting position.

But some true gritty rides saw him finish joint top points scorer with 12 alongside home favourite Bartosz Zmarzlik.

Lindgren had to work his way into second place in his semi-final and was left with gate two for the final.

And whilst it looked like World Championship leader Zmarzlik was going to make it back-to-back wins in the series, Lindgren generated some super speed to fly by the reigning Champ on the entry to the final lap.

It was an outcome which moved Lindgren back to within three points of the medal positions, and the Brummies’ recent recruit was thrilled with his performance.

“That is absolutely awesome,” Lindgren said.

“It feels so nice to be back on the podium, back on the top step.

“This whole day has been nothing but a rollercoaster; 15th in qualifying, a pretty tough race number, I was filled in with a lot of dirt from my first heat but I kept fighting and fighting all day and finally did it in the final.”

Lindgren will be in action for their ROWE Motor Oil Premiership trip to King’s Lynn on Thursday (July 4, 7.30pm) and will receive a special welcome back to Perry Barr on Monday, July 8 (7.30pm) when they host Oxford.

The Grand Prix series resumes at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium on Saturday, August 17.
