| | BIRMINGHAM’S frustrations in the top-flight continued as they slipped to a 47-43 home defeat to King’s Lynn on Monday.
It was another disappointing display from the Curtis Sport Brummies who were overtaken by their opponents in the standings, leaving them bottom of the ROWE Motor Oil Premiership.
Not even the home debut of Swedish Champion Freddie Lindgren and a combined 15 points from reserve duo Piotr Pawlicki and Leon Flint could stop them falling to a third league home defeat of the season on a night where an experimental, differing riding order failed to get into the swing of things.
Tom Brennan was moved to No.2 to partner Lindgren with the hope the Brummies could get off to a strong start - but instead it had the opposite desired effect as they conceded an opening 5-1.
Pawlicki and Flint, thankfully, responded with a maximum of their own in Heat Two though before the visitors retook the lead in Heat Five.
The fixture then delivered a hat-trick of 5-1s with two going the way of the Brummies who found themselves ahead by two after Heat Eight.
That’s how it remained until after Heat Ten before King’s Lynn themselves then restored a two point advantage with back-to-back 4-2s, Firstly, Steve Worrall and Pawlicki were on the receiving end before former Brummie Adam Ellis, guesting for the visitors, and Patryk Wojdylo bettered Justin Sedgmen and the previously unbeaten Flint.
After recovering with two race wins, Lindgren was then beaten by Stars’ guest No.1 Tungate in Heat 13 and whilst Pawlicki won Heat 14, fellow Pole Wiktor Lampart was stuck out at the back leaving the Brummies needing a 5-1 in the last race to turn things around.
King’s Lynn’s guest No.1 Rohan Tungate got away with a twitchy start to help him on his way to sealing a paid maximum and when Brennan was deemed to have been at fault for causing Ellis to come down on bend four mid-race, the result was awarded and the Brummies’ return to action in the Second City after three weeks away ended in defeat.
The two sides meet again a week on Thursday (July 4, 7.30pm) at the Adrian Flux Arena for the first instalment of their ROWE Motor Oil Premiership R2 fixture.
