IPSWICH 51 BRUMMIES 39

Thursday June 06, 2024
BIRMINGHAM were denied a place in the Knockout Cup Final after losing 51-39 at Ipswich on Thursday.

The Curtis Sport Brummies were already up against it having lost their home leg by two points earlier in the week.

And despite an encouraging start, they couldn’t stop the Witches racing their way to a 14 point aggregate victory.

Swedish superstar Freddie Lindgren won his maiden ride in the club’s colours as he and Justin Sedgmen opened with a 4-2 to level overall.

Reserve pairing Piotr Pawlicki and Leon Flint conceded a 5-1 in Heat Two though before Wiktor Lampart led a 3-3 in the third.

Tom Brennan and Flint combined for a 4-2 in Heat Four, but Ipswich responded with two heat advantages to temporarily settle any nerves.

Lampart picked up a second race win of the night when he led a 4-2 with Sedgmen in Heat Seven - but that would be the Brummies’ final advantage of the tie.

Brennan was able to add another victory to his name whilst Lindgren rounded off his night with two further wins on an otherwise tough night for the Midlanders.

It was the defending Knockout Cup winners who progressed with the Brummies now facing a two-and-a-half week break until their next fixture against King’s Lynn at Perry Barr on Monday, June 24 (7.30pm).
