| | TOM Brennan feels Birmingham are ‘continuing to surprise’ people after a reassuring start to the season.
The Curtis Sport Brummies were written off by many before a wheel had even been turned in their return to the top division.
And despite only claiming one league point out of a possible six from their opening three fixtures, they have displayed plenty of promising signs along the way.
After drawing with reigning champions Sheffield at home on Monday, the Brummies then provided last year’s runners-up Ipswich with a stern test on their home circuit on Thursday.
And whilst they did lose 49-41 despite holding a slender lead after nine races, winter signing Brennan reckons things bode well for the future.
“It was tough because Ipswich are really good at home,” he said.
“But we came here with an open mind and I think we continued to surprise quite a lot of people which is awesome.
“Birmingham have worked really hard for this and to be a part of this 1-7 feels really good.
“We pushed Ipswich and we were right in the mix.
“Unfortunately, they got the upper hand towards the end but they’re obviously good at home.”
The Brummies are back at Perry Barr on Easter Monday (April 1, 7.30) where a big crowd is expected for their home clash with fellow ROWE Motor Oil Premiership newcomers Oxford.
The aggregate point will also be up for grabs with the Brummies trailing by just four points.
