| | BIRMINGHAM have completed their side for the 2024 Sports Insure Premiership campaign with the signings of European talents Piotr Pawlicki and Vaclav Milik.
The two join Steve Worrall, Wiktor Lampart, Tom Brennan, Zach Cook and Leon Flint as the Curtis Sport Brummies return to British Speedway’s top-flight.
Pawlicki is a former Polish Champion and a two-time World Cup winner with his home country.
The 29-year-old spent two seasons as a fully-fledged Grand Prix rider, which included a super-impressive sixth place finish in his first campaign, and has experience in the UK having previously represented Wolverhampton, Poole and Coventry.
Meanwhile, Milik is a double Czechia Champion and has competed in the Speedway European Championship series for the past nine successive seasons.
The 30-year-old was a league winner with Poole a decade ago and last appeared in Britain with King’s Lynn in 2015.
Club CEO Nigel Tolley is thrilled to finally have his seven riders in place and feels Pawlicki and Milik will bring plenty to his side.
“As supporters are already aware, we spent a fair amount of time deliberating our top two signings,” Tolley said.
“But as talks progressed, it started to become clear that Piotr and Vaclav were the two riders we ideally wanted to lead the Brummies.
“They initially made our shortlist having been heavily recommended by a number of our contacts and the more we got to know about them, the more we felt they would ideally be suited to Birmingham.
“Piotr is a really stylish rider and he will keep supporters at all tracks entertained that’s for sure.
“I know he was immensely popular during his time at Wolverhampton and even though it’s been quite some time since he raced in British Speedway, I think he’s got everything it takes to lead from the front at No.1.
“Vaclav is another rider who has caught the eye of Speedway supporters over the years and his return to the UK could come at the perfect time.
“He’s got the skill for sure to be a natural heat-leader in this league and I’m excited to see how he can perform.
“Both of them get on very well, they’re close, personal friends who enjoy riding together and they’ll also be travelling together.
“They both still have a lot to give and I think they could push towards gaining a place in the Grand Prix series by competing in British Speedway once again.
“To say a lot of clubs had already got the majority of their team plans sorted by the time we were accepted into the league, I’m extremely happy with the seven riders we have signed for the Brummies and I think we’ve got what it takes to have a solid season.”
The Curtis Sport Brummies get their campaign underway at fellow league newcomers Oxford on Thursday, March 14 (7.30) before hosting reigning Champions Sheffield at Perry Barr on Monday, March 25 (7.30).
