RACEDAY PREVIEW: BRUMMIES v EDINBURGH

Wednesday May 17, 2023
BIRMINGHAM stage their first home league fixture of the season at Perry Barr tonight (Wednesday, May 17, 7.30) when Edinburgh visit in the Cab Direct Championship.

The Curtis Sport Brummies arrive back in the Second City high on confidence as they picked up their first win of the year at Plymouth on Tuesday night.

Despite winter signing James Wright declaring himself fit to race and youngster Joe Thompson making his home debut, the Brummies' wait to be at full strength continues.

That's because Stefan Nielsen crashed out of Tuesday's win at Plymouth - he sustained an ankle injury and Rider Replacement will be in operation with Wright, Thompson, Alfie Bowtell and James Pearson eligible to cover his programmed outings.

The Brummies boys are in high spirits though and with Edinburgh without a win in six since their opening night victory over rivals Glasgow, team manager Laurence Rogers wants his riders to build on their Tuesday triumph at Plymouth.

"There was a real buzz around the pits after that win and it's important we build on that now," Rogers said.

"We said that we were treating the arrival of the league fixtures as a fresh start with the slate wiped clean - and full credit to the lads, they got the job done at Plymouth superbly.

"We obviously wanted our first home win of the season anyway, but for me, we now have to make sure we come away with the league points against Edinburgh even more so."

Edinburgh include popular former Brummie Paco Castagna alongside 2017 British Champion Craig Cook while Wolverhampton's Rory Schlein guests in place of the injured Josh Pickering at No.1.

It's FREE admission for all children aged 11 and under at Perry Barr in 2023 while Juniors aged 12-16 will be admitted for just £3.

Season Tickets are valid for the fixture as are Advanced Five tickets.
