PREVIEW: PLYMOUTH v BRUMMIES

Monday May 15, 2023
BIRMINGHAM head to Plymouth on Tuesday (May 16, 7pm) for their opening Cab Direct Championship fixture of the season.

Teenager Joe Thompson comes in for his Curtis Sport Brummies debut having signed for the Club last week in place of Ty Proctor.

And while James Wright looks set to make his comeback from injury in Wednesday’s home clash with Edinburgh, Paco Castagna gets one more guest booking in Birmingham colours in the South West.

The Perry Barr outfit are still in search of their first victory of the year having suffered five defeats in other competitions.

But CEO Nigel Tolley feels the side are now well placed ahead of back-to-back league meetings, with the Brummies also hosting Edinburgh on Wednesday (May 17, 7.30).

“We haven’t been a million miles away in any of our meetings so far but particularly in the last two, we’ve been much more competitive,” Tolley said.

“I’ve mentioned it before, it just needs all seven Brummies riders to click on the same night and we’ll be absolutely fine I’m sure of it.

“Results haven’t gone how we would’ve liked up to now but hopefully we can use the arrival of the league fixtures as a fresh start.

“Joe has already been to Plymouth once this season with Scunthorpe and scored well and he’ll have a point to prove with us I’m sure.

“Plymouth lost at home on Friday night so while they have got a decent looking side, we only have to look as close as their most recent meeting to see that they can be beaten.

“Hopefully we can give a good account of ourselves and be able to take lots of positives back to Perry Barr with us on Wednesday.”

Plymouth’s Ben Barker set a new track record at the Coliseum on Friday night while Lee Complin guests at reserve for the Gladiators after Jake Turner crashed out of their fixture with Poole.

PLYMOUTH: Kyle Howarth, Dan Gilkes, Paul Starke, Ben Barker, Richie Worrall, Lee Complin, Ben Trigger.
CURTIS SPORT BRUMMIES: Nick Morris, Alfie Bowtell, Paco Castagna, Stefan Nielsen, Justin Sedgmen, Joe Thompson, James Pearson.
