REDCAR 49 BRUMMIES 41

Saturday May 06, 2023
BIRMINGHAM showed further signs of improvement during their 49-41 BSN Series defeat at Redcar on Saturday.

The Curtis Sport Brummies were just four points down with two races to go at the ECCO Arena.

But a 5-1 maximum in the penultimate race sealed victory for the hosts.

It was an impressive effort from the Perry Barr outfit against one of the sides tipped for success in 2023.

And after a tricky start to the year, team manager Laurence Rogers says he is feeling much happier about his side’s prospects with the Cab Direct Championship campaign just around the corner.

“What a good performance from the team,” Rogers said.

“We were in there with a chance right up until Heat 14.

“There were a lot of promising signs.

“We’re not too far away at all now; the league programme gets underway next week and we’re looking much better.”

Skipper Justin Sedgmen enjoyed his best performance of the season so far and was only denied a five ride maximum in the very last race of the night.

Guest Zach Cook again impressed on his way to double figures while James Pearson enjoyed one of his best nights in Brummies colours.

Alfie Bowtell continued his strong start to season while Nick Morris, Stefan Nielsen and Ty Proctor all endured tough nights at the office.

The Brummies are back in action for their league opener at Plymouth on Tuesday, May 16 before hosting Edinburgh at Perry Barr on Wednesday, May 17 (7.30).
