SCUNTHORPE 55 BRUMMIES 35

Friday April 21, 2023
BIRMINGHAM were well beaten 55-35 in their first away fixture of the season at Scunthorpe.

The Curtis Sport Brummies managed just three race wins and two heat advantages at the Eddie Wright Raceway as they lost 104-76 on aggregate in their BSN Series Northern Group clash.

Boss Laurence Rogers admits it's not been the ideal start to the season, but is adamant performances will improve when his riders get more track time under their belts as a team.

"Of course we're disappointed with the end result," Rogers said.

"Our night got off to a bad start when Alfie (Bowtell) was excluded for touching the tapes - then Ty (Proctor) came in and got excluded for the same thing.

"The boys battled hard and when Alfie and Ty got the 4-2 in Heat Eight, I thought we were pulling it back.

"But Scunthorpe replied with a 5-1 and a 4-2 and that left us with too much to do in those final few races unfortunately.

"Nick (Morris) was very hard done by I felt by his exclusion for apparently delaying the start and ignoring the Start Marshal in Heat 13 and it just wasn't our night.

"Zach (Cook) did a good job as guest and out of the boys who are in desperate need of more track time, Alfie picked up a good win in Heat Eight, Ty plugged away hard and Stefan (Nielsen) had a solid second place in his second outing.

"We just need more track time as a team and things will start to improve I'm sure."

The Curtis Sport Brummies are back at Perry Barr on Wednesday (April 26, 7.30) when Redcar are the visitors in the BSN Series.
