| | BIRMINGHAM have completed their side for 2023 with the signing of Australian racer Ty Proctor.
The 36-year-old will be joined by fellow Aussies Nick Morris, Justin Sedgmen and James Pearson alongside British trio James Wright, Stefan Nielsen and Alfie Bowtell for the forthcoming Cab Direct Championship campaign.
Proctor first competed in British Speedway in 2008 and was a top-flight champion nearby with Wolverhampton in 2009.
In the second tier, he was also a part of the Workington side who went on to claim a famous treble in 2018.
And despite his vast experience, a tougher couple of seasons which have ended prematurely means he will start life with the Curtis Sport Brummies as a reserve on a 4.00 average.
Team Manager Laurence Rogers said: “That could be a real trump card for us.
“We know Ty hasn’t had it easy since the return from Covid but at the same time, we do know what he is capable of and he could prove to be really strong during his time at reserve in particular.
“He seems to have rediscovered his enthusiasm for racing and we’re really pleased to finally have our team in place.”
Meanwhile, Proctor has revealed the levels of commitment he has made en route to him agreeing to return to the shale.
“I’ve been willing to put the graft in which has been massively important for both me and for Birmingham,” he said.
“I’ve really stepped up my training in the gym, I’ve started dieting and eating all the healthy foods and I’m excited to be back involved.
“I’m also excited by what Birmingham are trying to do and while I’d love to be a linchpin to try and help them challenge for the play-offs, I just want to make sure things aren’t too intense and that I start off by enjoying my racing again because that could have a big say in how I perform.”
A reminder that Birmingham’s season gets underway on Wednesday, April 12 (7.30) at Perry Barr with an opening night Challenge against a Coventry Bees Select.
