| | BIRMINGHAM head to Poole tonight (Friday, July 29, 7.30) for their final Championship Jubilee League fixture - and have just ONE of their own riders involved.
The Curtis Sport Brummies’ injury woes worsened on Wednesday night, losing two more of their team as they were beaten 56-34 by the Pirates at Perry Barr.
Captain Ashley Morris suffered a shoulder injury in a first bend incident whilst former Poole man Stefan Nielsen sustained facial injuries when crashing out of Heat Six.
Still feeling the effects of those spills, both will now miss the trip to Dorset.
They join Josh Auty and James Shanes on the sidelines.
And with Claus Vissing still serving a 28-day ban and youngster James Pearson representing Australia in the Speedway of Nations 2 in Denmark, it means Justin Sedgmen is the only regular Brummie lining up at Wimborne Road.
With two other fixtures taking place tonight at Edinburgh and Scunthorpe, and the SON period in full flow, options have been severely restricted for team boss Laurence Rogers, with National Development League racers Lee Complin, Danno Verge and Tom Woolley accepting last minute guest bookings.
Many have questioned whether the fixture should still go ahead or not - but Rogers says that decision is totally out of his hands.
“That would come down to the Poole promotion really,” Rogers said.
“I’m sure they’d even want us to be going there with a competitive team really.
“Obviously we can only work with certain rider averages and there are so many riders unavailable it’s been almost impossible - to say it’s a far from ideal situation would be an understatement.
“At the end of the day though, we’ve had to keep trying to get a group of riders together - Poole have had this fixture on their calendar for a while now, they’ve pre-sold a lot of tickets from what I’m told and it’s a shame all-round really but our injury problems are beyond taking their toll.
"I'd like to thank the guests for giving up their time at such short notice."
Birmingham have league trips to fellow injury-hit side Plymouth and Glasgow to contend with next week with Berwick the next visitors to Perry Barr on Wednesday, August 10 (7.30).
POOLE: Steve Worrall, Drew Kemp R/R, Danny King, Zach Cook, Richard Lawson, Ben Cook, Connor Coles. BIRMINGHAM: Josh Auty R/R, Danno Verge, Paul Starke, Tom Woolley, Justin Sedgmen, Lee Complin, Ben Morley. Supporters can stream the meeting online via livestream.poole-speedway.com
