BIG WEDNESDAY AT PERRY BARR

Tuesday July 19, 2022
BIRMINGHAM return to Perry Barr on Wednesday (July 20, 7.30) in need of another big home win.

The Curtis Sport Brummies face Oxford in the Second City - 24 hours after losing 56-34 away to the Cheetahs on Tuesday.

That was another night to forget on the road as a patched-up team were again dominated by the opposition.

It looked as though it could be a perfect start in Heat One when guest Tom Brennan and Stefan Nielsen sat on a 5-1 - but the latter fell on the final lap.

The hosts appeared boosted by that piece of fortune and opened up a 16-point lead after Heat Six before coasting to victory.

Thankfully guest Brennan came up with a 14-point haul, with guest reserve Jason Edwards, their only other race winner.

Team Manager Laurence Rogers said: "The guests there did us proud but apart from that Oxford took advantage.

"A few things went against us with Stefan falling in Heat One and then in Heat 14, the rider in red (Aaron Summers) caused the crash, yet Ash (Morris) was excluded and he was rightly aggrieved by it."

Brummies know a home win on Wednesday night is now essential to keeping their Championship Jubilee League Southern Group hopes alive.

Brennan features again with Josh Pickering and Alfie Bowtell also deputising.

And after picking up their biggest win of the season on home shale last week, boss Rogers is keen to build on that in front of the home supporters.

"We've got a strong looking team on paper for Wednesday night and we want, and need, another performance and result like we had last week," Rogers said.
