BRUMMIES 33 GLASGOW 57

Wednesday July 06, 2022
BIRMINGHAM fell to their biggest home defeat of the season as they were beaten 57-33 by high-flying Glasgow.

The Curtis Sport Brummies were totally outclassed by the Tigers who closed the gap on league leaders Leicester by claiming all four Championship points on offer.

The Perry Barr outfit were always facing a tough task against a powerful Glasgow side - and that task was made even tougher in the build-up when Danish racer Claus Vissing made himself unavailable at short notice.

The Scottish side dominated from the off and opened up an eight point gap with just three races gone.

It almost got worse for the Brummies but a stroke of luck went their way when Glasgow's Tom Brennan packed up whilst leading Heat Four.

The visitors were soon 12 points ahead though and when Birmingham denied them a heat advantage four races in a row, Brummies were wondering whether they could find a route back in with the scores at 26-34.

But the Scottish side turned the screw once again, sealing four 5-1 maximums in the final five races on a night to forget for the Brummies.

Team Manager Laurence Rogers said: "We weren't gating and they were and that made the big difference.

"The track and mainly the gates were prepared slightly differently; it's what the boys wanted and what they asked for but it just didn't work for us.

"Thankfully Lewi Kerr did a good job for us as our guest but we can't complain, Glasgow deserved their win."

The Curtis Sport Brummies launch their Summer Trophy campaign at Plymouth next Tuesday (July 12, 7pm) before hosting the Gladiators at Perry Barr next Wednesday (July 13, 7.30).
