| | BIRMINGHAM boss Laurence Rogers has called for an instant response from his side after a heavy 63-27 defeat at Leicester.
The Edwards Plumbing Brummies were completely dominated by their Midlands rivals and managed just three race wins all night at the Paul Chapman and Sons Arena.
The hosts were in determined mood after losing their first home fixture in almost three years a week ago - but Rogers expects more from his own side and wants them to come out fighting in Wednesday’s (August 4, 7.30) crucial home meeting against Kent.
“That was beyond disappointing,” Rogers said.
“I said on track walk that we had to get our gating gloves on but we were second best away from the starts all night.
“The track wasn’t perfect, it was pretty rough, but having said that the Leicester boys didn’t have any problems.
“Bomber (Chris Harris) did his usual stuff and got double figures and Jason Edwards came in and battled hard at reserve.
“Paco (Castagna) and Erik (Riss) had one race win each but apart from that we were really struggling.
“Leicester are a really strong team though, especially at home and they were always going to be fired up after last week.
“Stewart Dickson (Leicester team manager) doesn’t like losing and that told in their performance.
“Tonight wasn’t good enough from us as a team but now all attentions turn to Wednesday at Perry Barr in what is a massive night for Birmingham Speedway in more ways than one.”
Club owners have described Wednesday’s home fixture with Kent as ‘make or break’.
They have been concerned by attendance figures at Perry Barr so far this season and have warned they may have to consider the future of the club if numbers are down on Wednesday.
There will be pre-meeting and interval experiences for supporters and a reminder that children 11 and Under are admitted FREE of charge.
