BIRMINGHAM are delighted to welcome young talent Billy Budd as their new club mascot for 2020.

The 12-year-old, from Ellesmere Port, enjoyed his experience at Perry Barr towards the end of last season and impressed club bosses in the process.

He started riding Formula Grass Track at the age of six and progressed through the auto cadets into the cubs at the age of eight.

He has won the cubs title twice and moved up to the juniors a year early and was crowned Champion last season.

Birmingham boss Laurence Rogers is pleased with the capture of Budd as mascot and is tipping him as one for the future.

He said: “I was recommended Billy and was only too pleased to give him some laps and he certainly looked impressive .

“He is a fine prospect at just 12 so it will be three years until he can race in the Midland and Southern Development League for the Bulls.

“The laps he will get will be of great value to him and we will watch his progress with great interest.”

Billy is really pleased to be given the mascot role for the Brummies. He said: “It was great when Laurence contacted dad to ask if I would like to do it and I had a massive smile on my face for sure.

“I really like the track and look forward to riding as many laps on it as I can.”

Billy’s father Nick commented “After completing last season on grasstrack he will be focussed solely on his Speedway.

“The opportunity to ride at Birmingham every week is massive for Billy and his progress and we’re extremely grateful to the club for it.

“As well as his mascot duties, Billy will compete in the Speedway Youth Series next season and hopefully get some rides in the Northern Junior League.

“He is being mentored by ex-Ellesmere Port Gunners top man John Jackson and that will be very useful to him.”
