EASTBOURNE 57 BRUMMIES 32 - MATCH REPORT

Friday April 19, 2019
BIRMINGHAM suffered a heavy 57-32 defeat at Eastbourne in the first leg of their Knockout Cup first round tie.

Brummies were restricted to just three race winners as the hosts again demonstrated their well renowned dominance around their own Arlington circuit.
It was a fifth straight defeat for Birmingham since moving back up to second tier racing, but skipper James Shanes insists there’s plenty more to come from his side.
“Of course we’re disappointed but Eastbourne is always a difficult place to go to for any away team,” he said.
“It’s a very technical track and we were hoping that we could learn a lot from when we went there in the (Championship) Shield a couple of weeks ago.
“But the temperature was very different which meant the track was totally different and while the boys tried their best, Eastbourne just had too much for us.
“None of the fixtures have been easy so far and it’s a shame the results have turned out the way they have.
“But we’re getting some of our most difficult fixtures out of the way and there’s still a lot more to come from us as a team.”
Brummies launch their league campaign at Perry Barr this Wednesday (April 24, 7.30) when local, in-form side Leicester are the visitors.
