BIRMINGHAM host their first home Championship Shield fixture of the season against Somerset on Wednesday (7.30).

Edwards Plumbing Brummies have put up valiant efforts in their two away fixtures in the competition so far, but both have ended in defeat.

Back at Perry Barr in front of their own supporters though, club co-owner David Mason is hopeful they can pick up their first home win of the season.

“These are probably the two sides you use as examples when you look at differing team building strategies this year,” he said.

“Somerset have gone very top heavy whereas we’ve gone for a more solid look from 1-7.

“At home against them I think that will work in our favour and we need to be looking at certain races in the racecard and targeting certain heat advantages.

“The boys are itching to get that first win of the season under their belts and there have been positives to take from the first few meetings.”

Birmingham are at full strength for the clash with Somerset including an old fans’ favourite.

Nico Covatti, who was a member of the 2013 Brummies side who finished top of the regular Elite League standings, rides at No.4 but team-mate from that year Chris Harris has been ruled out with a wrist injury.

Berwick’s Aaron Summers has been booked to deputise while the visitors are led by Rory Schlein - who also doubles-up with Wolverhampton in the top flight.

The first Ductair Electrics Bulls action of the season will follow the main event as they take on Dragons in a Challenge.

A reminder that disabled season ticket holders will be able to gain entry via the main stadium glass doors that were in full operation throughout 2018.

All other season ticket holders and general admission can still only be gained via the official turnstiles on Aldridge Road.

Supporters should also note that they are still able to park on the One Stop Shopping Centre car park despite a few issues being raised after the first meeting.

SOMERSET: Rory Schlein, Todd Kurtz, Valentin Grobauer, Nico Covatti, Aaron Summers, Anders Rowe, Henry Atkins.
